Jared Diamond is on track with his theory that civilization growth only comes from being geographically lucky to a point. Where he was wrong though, is that’s not all that matters. There is more to Civilization then just being rich or poor, or whether you have a lot, or you have barely anything! The real meaning of geographic luck and Civilization growth is the domesticate animals you have, the animals that help support you and help you live like goats and sheep because they eat the leftover crops and make room for new ones to grow. Also, cows, because they eat some crops, they have a lot of meat and skin, and they’re huge and strong and can pull plows easily on a farm. The reason these characteristics matter in a domesticated animal is because if the animal is small, doesn’t eat crops, and weak then you won’t have a large amount of meat to eat, a lot of hide for shelter and clothes, or something to help you work and pull the heavy stuff. Civilization is more recent and took thousands of centuries to fully develop. Another feature of civilization growth is the tools and weapons that were available at the time and climate because that affects the growth of plants and crops which are food and the rain can be used as drink. About 14,000 years ago was the worldwide human race of present day when tools were being made with very strong stone. Prehistory was divided by tool development. Later on, metal replaces stone, bronze replaced metal, and iron replaced bronze. Now we currently use iron for a lot of our tools! Hunters, fishers, gatherers of edible plants, sheltering in caves/temporary huts/or in the open as long as the climate is nice, were all popular throughout the Paleolithic Age! The people of the Paleolithic Age formed small groups to find food, protect themselves, and protect their children which had to be breast fed at the time and because of that, they couldn’t produce as many so there were very few children at the time. With this disadvantage of few children, women actually liked to be able to hunt and be the powerful one in the family like the men! This all goes back to the Civilization growing mainly because of the socialized workers, technology, materials for tools, large population, climate, crops, and domesticated animals! The people living during these ages struggled with little technology like we have now, but most of them managed to pull through and survive!
