#56 Last Class of the Year Exam Review!

LAST WESTERN CIVILIZATION CLASS OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On Thursday in Western Civilization, we reviewed a lot for the exam. We went over everything we talked about this semester starting with Guns, Germs, and Steel and ending with Feudalism. I went through all of my folders during my German class since I already finished Rosetta Stone, and I gathered all of my corrected tests from this class and have been studying them and quizzing myself. I also took notes on pretty much everything Mr. Schick said was going to be on the final exam. I’ve been reading and re-reading everything I wrote and highlighting everything I already know so that I have an idea of what I need to focus less or more on. The exam is on Tuesday, June 4^th at 10:00-11:30 am. I have no idea what room we’re supposed to be in, but I’ll figure it out soon enough. Hope all goes well and I get a good grade! J Can’t wait until summer!

#55 Feudalism Test and Final Grade Results!

Today in Western Civilization, we were scheduled to have a test on Feudalism and we’ve known about it since like last Thursday I think. I was completely ready for it because we got a study sheet that was literally exactly what was on the test. So, basically as long as you knew everything that was on the paper, you were guaranteed to get a 100. I knew pretty much everything, but there were two questions that I wasn’t positive of. The first one was number 5 I think and the question was “What is not another word for Compact as in the term Feudal Compact?” and the answer was d. Ownership. Luckily, I put that, but when I was taking it I wasn’t sure if it was that or letter b. Contract, because technically you sign a contract and they didn’t really sign anything. The other one I wasn’t sure of was about what invented tool didn’t help agricultural growth in Europe, and the options were: Iron plow, water mill, something else I can’t remember, and steel machinery, which was the answer because, first, it wasn’t invented, and secondly, it didn’t really help farming like the other tools did. I think after finding out the two answers I wasn’t sure about, I got a 100%. This plus the blogs, plus the Pax Romana paper should bring my grade from an 84 to, hopefully a 90 or above! Can’t wait to see the final grade!J  

#54 Feudalism Study Guide!

Today in Western Civilization, Mr. Schick just let us use the class to study for the Feudalism text on Wednesday because here is our schedule for the next 2 weeks:

-That’s pretty much all we talked about today and we found out that our Feudalism test will be multiple choice! I filled out a study guide about Feudalism and hopefully it helps me to do really well!

#53 Feudlism and the Middle Ages!

Today in Western Civilization took attendance and then realized that both of the representatives for president and vice president are in our west civ class! After that we started taking notes on Feudalism and Mr. Schick said how he hates the middle ages because we went downhill.  Then,  we went to a picture of an iron plow that Mr. Schick was obsessed with. We went back to it like 8349859950439 times and it was really funny. Then we talked about a picture of a woman who looked exhausted feeding a bunch of little birds and a giant chicken. The lady had ugly feet and the art was not good at all, but that’s just how it was back then. We talked a lot about the picture and tried to figure out why the chicken was awkwardly bigger than the rest of the birds. After that, we looked at another picture and the proportions were awful. Last but not least, we decided that we were going to have test on Feudalism on Wednesday because were off Monday and Tuesday we don’t have him! So, I hope everything goes well and I do well on the test!J

#52 Reveiwing the Pope Quiz and Test!

Today in Western Civilization, we took attendance and then Harry had to take the Barbarian Pop Quiz because he wasn’t here the day we originally did it. After he finished, we all went over and checked the pop quiz that I got an 80% on I missed the second one. I put Ostrogoths when really the answer was Huns because they came from China and migrated downward. After that, we reviewed the real test that I got a 74% on. I actually got a 70% but Mr. Schick gave everyone 4 points because we didn’t really go over what city Constantinople used to be. I put Italy because I had no clue, but the answer was Byzantine. It wasn’t my best test grade so far, but I’m just glad I passed. I have an 84% in that class now, but once all the blogs go up, hopefully I’ll have a 90 or above!

#51 Barbarians POP Quiz!

Yesterday in Western Civilization, we went in and started immediately reviewing about the Barbarians and which tribe is which modern day Countries now a days. I was wondering why we were reviewing and then I found out! We had another POP quiz! I think I got one wrong because we talked about it. It was the second one and it asked who traveled this way with arrows on a map, and I put Franks to begin with when the answer was Huns! Since there were 5 questions though, that is still an 80 percent which isn’t terrible! Like I’ve said before, I love the pop quizzes and blogs because it’s a great and easy way to get your grade up if you didn’t do so well on a test! Unfortunately though, some people don’t do them, and don’t study for the tests, but for the people who do work hard, it’s great!

#49 Rome Test!

Today in Western Civilization, we had a test that was posted on the blog yesterday! I thought I was ready but I didn’t study enough detail. For example I knew that there were 20,000 people in the government when Diocletian ruled, but I didn’t know the exact years of when Pax Romana began and ended. The answer was 27 BC to 180 AD. I put something like 81 AD because I remember there being and 8 and a 1, I just didn’t know the order. The first question was “What is the last letter in the word Pax?” and someone in one of the other classes put “Peace”. Sometimes if the question is so easy like that, you don’t know if you’re overlooking it or if it is a trick question. There were 3 essay type things. 2 of them were 10 points each and the 3^rd one about Constantine was 20 points. I think I got 2/3 right. After the test we had to take notes on LO-1 pages 166-173 and finish it for homework, so I’ve been underlining my notes! Hope I did well on the test! J

#47 Busy Weekend!

On Friday in Western Civilization, we switched seats and my “new” seat is the same one I was in before then on the right of me is Maheer, in front of me is Katie, on the left of me is Lexi, and behind me is Ricky. I also have had a great view on the Projector screen from that seat so it’s great for note taking! Speaking of, I took a lot of notes on Constantine and how he changed Christianity. I forgot my notebook so I can’t really put many facts about it right now. I also had a really busy weekend so this blog’s a little late. On Friday night I had dress rehearsal for dance until 9. Then on yesterday morning we got Sierra’s Graduation dress and that night was the recital which was another late night. Then we went out to breakfast this morning for Mother’s Day and we went to my Grandmothers at 3 but didn’t get back until 9:30. Luckily, I didn’t have ton of homework this weekend so I’m happy.

#45 Checking Rome Test and Jesus Pop Quiz!

Today in Western Civilization, we got a lot done! As soon as we went in we started to get the tests back on Rome. I got 3 wrong out of 20 so I got an 85. I really wish I got an A, but it is what it is. Also, I’m happy I passed because I studied and a lot of people failed. We read the test out loud and wrote on it first, and then we got the scantrons so that we didn’t judge it off that. After finishing going over everything, we began to take notes on Jesus in his earlier years when he wasn’t God himself. We took a few notes on a PowerPoint and then had a 5 question pop quiz on it and thank goodness I payed good attention because it was really easy! I like having those because other than the blogs which not everyone does, it’s a good way to pull your grade up if you absolutely need it! J

#44 Test on Gracchus, Caesar, and Pax Romana!

Today in Western Civilization, we turned in our papers at the very beginning of class just like Mr. Schick asked us to do. He also said if your writing about Pax Romana, the title of your paper shouldn’t be “Pax Romana”. The name of our paper started as “The Era of Peace”. Then, we changed it to “Rome at its Best” because it was more creative and still true. It only had to be 500 words minimum, but ours was about 700. So after we handed that in, we had a test on Tiberius Gracchus, Julius Caesar, and a little bit of Pax Romana. Pretty much the only thing that was on Pax Romana though was that it means “Roman Peace” in Latin. I think and hope I did pretty well because there were only 20 questions so if you didn’t get that many wrong, it will still badly affect your grade. If that’s the case, hopefully the Pax Romana paper will make up for it considering I did most of it by myself. I think I did well, but we’ll see! J

#43 Pax Romana Project!

Today in Western Civilization, after taking attendance, we talked a little bit more in depth about the project we have to do for Monday. We have to work in pairs, so I’m with Katie. It needs to be at least 500 words but mine will probably be longer because I like to write, and it has to be all about Pax Romana, which literally means Roman Peace. We do have permission to use wiki this time because Mr. Schick said there actually a lot of good stuff on there about it. We can also use pages 104 to 122 in textbook. Katie and I worked it out and were using Google Drive. This way, we can see what we’re doing and work together without being in the same room. I’m doing all of the information from the book and she’s doing the computer info, then she’s going to print it. We have to turn it in on Monday, on time and we had the whole class today to work on it! It should be really good!  J

#42 Finshing Revolution 8 and Starting Julius Caesar!

Today and Western Civilization after taking attendance and we finished watching the video and continued to Revolution 8 where Octavius’ supporters break the wax head of Tiberius’ father and then kill Tiberius Gracchus and most of his supporters by beating him with broken chairs and furniture from his house. They then threw his body in the Tiber River. Then, his brother Graius tried to take over and was killed for the same reason his brother was. His body was also thrown into the Tiber River. After all of this came Julius César taking over then forming a triumvirate (group of three) with Pompey (powerful warrior with troops and good fighting skills) and Craccus (richest man in the world). Pompey was killed, JC came to full power and then the Senate killed him. After that, Octavius (JC’s great nephew) started a new triumvirate with Mark Antony (JC’s friend) and Leviticus. Mark Antony and Octavius fought each other, joined forces and killed everyone involved with JC’s murder, and then fought each other some more. Mark Antony met Cleopatra and they dated. They all battled some more and Octavius won and changed his name to “Augustus”. He then became the most powerful man in the world! That’s where we stopped. I actually get really interested in this and took like 93294543 pages of notes. I think I’m going to do really well on the test! J

#41 Revolutions 4-7 Video Continued!

Today in Western Civilization, we took attendance and started watching Revolutions 4-7. Mr. Schick’s sound on his laptop isn’t working so he asked who’s he could use and I let him use mine! It was really interesting actually because Tiberius betrayed Octavius even though they were family friends. He said “Vito” which meant he didn’t let the law that Octavius was putting down pass. After that, everything went crazy and the people rebelled. Tiberius’s mother wasn’t very happy with him because they were close friends and she felt bad. He thought he was doing the right thing for his father but he wasn’t. After that, Octavius gets really upset and tries to kill Tiberius. Meanwhile, everyone thinks Tiberius Gracchus is a hero and they all love him. That’s pretty much where we ended but I want to keep watching so I cans see what happens. It’s like watching a really good movie and hitting pause at the best part until next time. If I really wanted to though, I could watch it at home since it’s favorited on my computer, but I’ll wait for everyone else like a good student! J                      

#40 Gracchus Brothers 3rd Punic War Video!

Today in Western Civilization, we went in and started to watch a video about Gracchus the dad and how when he died they kept his body sitting up like in a thrown and put wax in his eyes so it looked like he was looking still, then they burned him in a “funeral fire”/ It was also about the 3^rd Punic War against Carthage with Tiberius Gracchus and Octavius (not the one we are familiar with). If you were someone with a lot of money you would have rather spent time with Octavius because he had the huge house and all the drinks and money and pretty much whatever you wanted. Tiberius Gracchus on the other hand was someone you could depend on to help you like he helped the lady when her cart flipped over and fed her and made her and her children feel safe. Tiberius’ mother didn’t like Carthage, she thought it was gross. The war was very violent too, they poured hot oil on them and then threw torches so they lit on fire and burned to death. Tiberius was a hero and did a great job of taking his father’s place!

#39 Rome Part 1 Test Corrections!

Friday in Western Civilization, we got in and took attendance and then we started getting the tests back, and unfortunately a lot of people failed. L I got a 76, which is passing, but still could’ve been much better! Then, after that we started going over it out loud and Mr. Schick said that there wasn’t one question that everyone got right even though the last one was asking what teacher/rapper sings “Rome”. The answer was obviously “Chi-Cago” and people didn’t pay attention. I’m sure someone had to put option A, which was “Mr. Schick”. I have a 90 in West Civ so I’m not too worried because I did pass and do all of my blogs! Once we finished going over the test and explaining everything, Mr. Schick asked us what we think he should do to get more people involved and Parker and I both said that he should give bigger punishments to people who are talking and people who are on there laptops when they shouldn’t be, during note taking time. I take so many notes handwritten that I don’t think it’s fair for people to just goof off on their computers and I know people do because they ask me to send them the notes! Hopefully this works and everyone starts getting better grades! J

#38 Quest Results and Assembly!

Today in Western Civilization, we took a “quest”. On LO-1, LO-2 and the Rome rap form the beginning all the way to right before the Gracchus Brothers and then we stopped. I have the song memorized and I highlighted and read so I think I did pretty well. The only thing I didn’t really know at all was who ruled what government. I don’t know why I didn’t know that but I didn’t. The other ones were fine though. We weren’t allowed to use our blogs so it all had to come out of memory, and hopefully I did okay! I already read pages 97-101 in class so now I have no homework! West Civ was our first class this morning and then we had the assembly. At the assembly we got our awards and honor certificates. In the third quarter I got all A’s but for some reason still got second honors, and some of them were high A’s. I know other people who got all low A’s and still made first. I’m disappointed because I tried so hard for first, but it happens. Mr. Perry and Mrs. Murphy Don told me to email Mrs. Cathell and I just did that explaining everything so hopefully we can get it worked out J

Quest Tommorow and Confirmation!

Today in Western Civilization after taking attendance, we kept going on the rap. We took notes and talked in detail about how when the rich people bought land from the poor as a favor because they couldn’t pay it off, they lived in the latifundia and got richer by not having to pay the slaves much to farm on their land and get food. Tomorrow we have a “quest” (half quiz, half test) with 25 multiple choice questions about the first part of the rap all the way to the Gracchus Brothers. I got confirmed tonight and it started at 6:30 but we didn’t get out until about 10 because the Bishop (Bishop Madden) really liked to talk! So after eating dinner and showering and everything like that, I finally started my homework at 11:15 and didn’t get much time at all to study. I know all of the first words of the rap though, so hopefully that will help me! J

#36 Watching the Rome Rap Videos!

Today in Western Civilization after we went in and took attendance, we started watching the extra credit videos. They were like music videos for the Rome rap by Chi Cago. Mr. Schick let us watch them and then give them a grade out of ten. The first group was Victoria and Abby, and theirs was really good so we gave it a ten! Then was Tim and Sean’s and theirs was great too so it also go a ten. After that, Harry and William went and they got a 5 because they didn’t finish, but if they did, they would have gotten a ten! And last but not least, Alex went and got a 10. I liked watching the videos but now I’m a little tired of that song because I’ve heard it SO much between making my video and watching everyone else’s! Once we finished that we started on breaking down the Rome rap lyrics and we talked about the crucifixion and the Punic wars. They were Rome vs. Carthage, and Rome won every time. We ended just about there and it was a good class! J
